There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding anti-wrinkle injections and we are here to help you sort the facts from the fiction about them. Whilst ageing is a natural part of life (whether we dread it or not), we all want to prolong the process for as long as possible, age well and celebrate beauty in all ages. We are able to use methods to reduce the signs of ageing. Anti-wrinkle treatments, also known as Botulinum Toxin type A, are highly effective treatments used to reverse the signs of ageing. The injections work to allow the wrinkles to relax and soften by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. The treatment has grown in popularity in recent years and is one of our most popular cosmetic treatments at the clinic. However there are some things you should know before you commit to anti-wrinkle injections.
1. Anti-wrinkle injections are safe
Anti-wrinkle injections are safe when they are completed by a trained medical practitioner. Medical practitioners must have the appropriate training to complete this non-surgical treatment and the risks are extremely minimal. Here at Sculptic Clinic, you will be in safe hands with our co-founder Breige Leonard who is a practising registered nurse and a trained aesthetic nurse practitioner with over 25 years experience. Breige is registered with the NMC and therefore assures a quality service with an honest, ethical approach.
2. Anti-wrinkle injections don’t hurt
Most people commonly think because anti-wrinkle injections are administered with a needle that it is incredibly painful. At Sculptic Clinic we will treat you with our utmost care. Anti-wrinkle treatments are administered with a very fine needle to inject into the skin, making the treatment as comfortable as possible for you. You might feel a little pinching which lasts no longer than a few seconds. It will be over before you know it and there is no need for time off work.
3. Results won’t be seen immediately
If a practitioner is promising you results immediately or within the first 24 hours, they are not being entirely accurate. It usually takes anything between 2-14 days before you can see a difference. This is because the medication will need time to find its way to every nerve and then for it to block them individually. The result then gradually becomes more noticeable. Results will vary from one person to another, which is why it is so important to follow up with a review appointment 2 weeks after your treatment to check muscle activity and aesthetic outcome.
4. Anti-wrinkle treatments can last up to 6 months or longer
Botox injections are by no means a permanent treatment and over time will wear off. How long it lasts is different for everyone. Anti-wrinkle injections give temporary results which gives you the control over how you want to look, giving you a fresh and rejuvenated look without the need for surgery. The injectables don’t last the same for everyone. Its longevity depends on many factors and tends to dissolve quickly in patients who live a more active life than others.
5. Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat other conditions
Despite being a well known non-surgical cosmetic treatment, Botulinum Toxin Type A can also be used to treat other conditions such as neck and facial spasms that result in teeth grinding. It is also used to treat eye twitching, excessive sweating and chronic migraines.
6. Bruising and mild redness is normal
Botulinum Toxin Type A is injected just below the skin’s surface with a fine needle. Sometimes, the needle may hit a blood vessel and cause mild bruising. These usually fade on their own within a matter of days. You are however more likely to experience mild redness and swelling. Every patient will be different in how they respond.
7. Anti-wrinkle treatments don’t take away your facial expressions.
There is a common misconception that anti-wrinkle injections will leave you poker faced and with a ‘frozen’ look. The treatment works to remove or smoothen crow’s feet, frown lines and other trouble areas however when it is applied correctly it should never interfere with your facial expressions. Its sole purpose is to get rid of those age lines.
All clients will have a full clinical consultation with our medical practitioner prior to their treatment and we can discuss what results you would like to achieve as a result of the anti-wrinkle treatment. You can find out more about our anti-wrinkle treatments here.
